in sepia

Yesterday, two of my new-yorker friends organized a dinner for us to meet their grandparents. Emma and Caroline were born in France but grew-up in NY because their parents moved here for work. Their grandparents - who have become quite the globetrotters after they retired - got used to visit them every year ... and old age hasn't deterred them at all.
Grand-père is 94 years-old. Grand-mère is 87 years-old. They're both so energetic, so full of life!
We had dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant. They shared a Vietnamese beer and ate beef salad and spring rolls, while fascinating us with bits of their stories. Mimi was telling us how her husband was made prisoner 10 days after they had gotten married. He was stationed near
Dunkirk when the German were invading, he was made prisoner and remained a prisoner of war in Germany for almost 5 years. Throughout the war, Mimi was with the French resistance, she was involved in the transition of Jews to Switzerland.

I looked at them and forgot how old they were. I just wished I could reach my golden age as graciously as they have!

É como a minha mãe diz quando eu gozo com a idade dela "Gozas, gozas mas eu já cá cheguei!".
E então quando é com esse espírito, dá inveja!
